Having a family is a dream of many people. But for ɪɴꜰᴇʀᴛɪʟᴇ couples like Courtney Garrett, 38, and her husband Philip, 42, it’s a very difficult one.
Regardless of their trying every possible way to get a child, it wasn’t successful at all. Until Courtney and Philip sat down and felt disheartened about fate that they may not have children in this life, they both decided to do the I.V.F process with the last hope.
Iɴ ᴠɪᴛʀᴏ ꜰᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ involves mixing egg and sperm cells in a laboratory. Then the embryo is transferred back into the uterine cavity for implantation and pregnancy.
Luckily, a miracle happened in 2009. Garrett was pregnant, and she wasn’t normally pregnant because she was pregnant with triplets. Little Jack, Oliver, and Ellie opened their eyes to see the world.
But that was not enough. After their happiness with the first triplets, they decided to try one more round of I.V.F in 2016. At that time, Ms. Courtney was extremely surprised when an ultrasound revealed she was expecting triplets again.
According to Dr. Sissy Sartor of the Fertility Institute, it’s a very rare phenomenon. The chance of giving birth to two sets of triplets is about 0.5 to 2 in a million cases.
In February 2017, another triplet was born and named Vivienne, Wells, and Georgie. This made Courtney and Philip’s family happier and busier than ever.
Both Garrett and Phillips were delighted with the incident because what they received was beyond what they expected.
“I didn’t think it would happen. At first, my husband and I decided to go for I.V.F. We still thought that this method would work or not. Will we have a chance to become parents or not? My heart flutters just knowing that these lovely babies will be my children,” said Garrett.
