If having to give birth in the middle of the road isn’t impressive enough, the way Australian Courtney Graham told the story made it even better. Check out!
There is no doubt that births are unpredictable and can happen in the most unusual situations. The story of Australian Wendy Graham bombed the internet when her husband, Courtney, hilariously recounted how he helped his wife give birth in the car. “I looked at my wife in the passenger seat, and I could see the baby’s head looking back at me. There are no childbirth classes on what to do when the baby arrives in the front seat of your Toyota Prado,” the father told radio station 6PR.
It all started when her mother’s water broke at five in the morning at their home in Perth, Australia. Without hesitation, Courtney told her to get in the car. “We gathered our things and threw everything in the car,” she said. He ran down the road, towards the hospital, but the baby didn’t look like he wanted to wait. The couple knew they were in trouble when Wendy had “one of those power contractions.”
“She was like, ‘I think the baby’s coming,’ and I was like, ‘You’re okay, you’re okay,’ and I just looked down and I could see the baby’s head,” the father reported. When he realized they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time, Courtney drove across four lanes of traffic, even past roadwork cones, to pull over to the side of the highway.
“I ran to the passenger side, and the baby was already halfway there, they were two-thirds of the way out, and I just grabbed her by the back of the neck. I practically threw it into my wife’s chest and called 911.” After 10 long minutes, the paramedics arrived. “It felt like forever, just me, my wife, and the newborn, umbilical cord attached, peaceful on the highway,” said Courtney.
At first, the father confessed that he was quite scared, but luckily, everything turned out well. “She was really blue, like a deep blue in the face, and you can imagine the feeling of seeing that. But then she coughed and spat… and she was already making some noises and crying,” he recalled.
Courtney also said that she had nothing but admiration for her wife. “She was amazing, and everything was fine. She is a superstar, I have never seen anything like this,” she stated. For Wendy, her husband’s attitude was also surprising because he had kept his distance during the birth of their first daughter, who is now two years old. “As I was? Mate, I was shitting myself,” ended his hilarious statement.
